Video balun

Video baluns used for HD surveillance cameras

Video balun, devices for video transmission via UTP cable. Video baluns are converters used in surveillance systems for transmitting video and/or audio signals and/or power supply over distances of up to 300M in the case of passive video baluns and up to 500-600M in the case of active converters accompanied by signal amplifiers. Passive converters, as they are also called, are used in traditional, analog surveillance systems , but also in newer technologies such as AHD, CVI or TVI. Video baluns are used in pairs, one side is mounted on the UTP cable at the end facing the camera, and the pair is mounted on the other end of the cable that enters the BNC socket of the DVR. In addition to the standard video balun model, there are also variants with video signal and power or with power and audio. In this way, each video balun has an RJ-45 connector at one end, and a BNC jack at the other end, a female power jack (and the video balun pair will have a male jack) and an RCA jack. Although the video baluns used in analog systems can be used without any problems in HD systems, recently video baluns dedicated to AHD, CVI and TVI technologies have been developed and launched. It is necessary to take into account the HD system used, however, because the video signal transmission distance through HD video baluns is different from technology to technology. If you have implemented a complex system, of larger size and classic video baluns are not a cost-effective option, it is recommended to look at another version of video balun, in a galvanized casing, which can be mounted on the wall and supports a large number of cameras.

Connectivity related to video surveillance systems

Plugs, adapters, connecting elements. This section is intended for connectors used in surveillance systems. Any surveillance system that you want to install requires, in addition to the basic components such as surveillance cameras and the DVR or NVR, additional elements without which the system cannot be functional. In the case of surveillance cameras, you will need power plugs to power the camera (if you opt for a power cable and not for a separate power supply that includes this plug). The BNC plug is used to connect the camera to the DVR via the coaxial cable. Without BNC plugs, video transmission between the camera and the DVR cannot be achieved. BNC plugs are used two at a time, one piece is mounted on the side facing the camera and the other is mounted on the side facing the DVR. The connectivity used in surveillance systems is quite varied, although it may seem simple at first glance, since there are situations when these connectors alone are not enough. For example, there are cameras that also support audio, and in this case, RCA jacks are needed to ensure the transmission of the audio signal via cable from the camera to the DVR, as well as a microphone, if it is not built into the camera.

Surveillance systems require a connection of surveillance cameras with the DVR or NVR, as appropriate. This is where these cables come into play. Depending on the system you are using, you will need a coaxial cable or a UTP cable. Also, if you are using coaxial cable, you will need a separate one for power. A different type is used to transmit the video signal. Choose the appropriate version for the project, noting that these cables shown are sold per roll, the size varies according to each individual description.
